I first read children of dune, then dune, then dune. I’m in the “love” category and i’ve read every book. Production on the movie won’t start until late 2022, and the release is currently scheduled for october 2023.
They Are Absolutely Worth Reading.
The sequels go in what might be described as a strange direction to many readers. It all served an insight into the human mind, the individual and the collective. I know what you’re getting at but it really is hard to say.

The rest, both the last frank herbert books and all of the brian herbert books, are filler. I actually read them out of order. His plots are very complex, because the plot is an extension, a logical reaction, to what the characters do and say.
Are The Sequels Worth Reading By Frank Herbert?
Production on the movie won’t start until late 2022, and the release is currently scheduled for october 2023. Dune itself works perfectly fine as a standalone story and reading the sequels is not necessary to enjoy the story told in that book. So, a few questions, intrepid dune fans:

* battlefield earth (still shitty but at least you only wasted 2.5. In the meantime, a lot of people have decided to whet their appetite by reading frank herbert’s dune series for themselves. Dune, dune messiah and children of dune are a pretty sensible trilogy.
If You’re Looking For A Book Series With Several Interesting Plots And A Rich, Colorful Universe, Dune Is Worth Reading.
Dune (published 1985), hunters of dune (published 2006), and sandworms of dune (published 2007). The rest, not so much. God emperor is totally weird but awesome, and heretics and chapterhouse are also different, but enjoyable, especially if you like god emperor.
